Plagiarism Policy

The Global Journal of Multidisciplinary Research (GJMR) is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity. We recognize that plagiarism undermines the quality and credibility of academic work and the trust placed in the scholarly community. This Plagiarism Policy outlines our commitment to preventing and addressing plagiarism in the submissions we receive.

1. Definition of Plagiarism: Plagiarism is the act of presenting someone else's work, ideas, or words as one's own without proper acknowledgment. It includes, but is not limited to:

  • Direct Plagiarism: Copying text, images, data, or ideas directly from other sources without citation.
  • Paraphrasing Plagiarism: Rewriting another author's work without proper citation or rephrasing the ideas too closely to the original text.
  • Self-Plagiarism: Reusing parts or the entirety of a previous manuscript that has been published elsewhere without proper citation or acknowledgment.
  • Mosaic Plagiarism: Using phrases, ideas, or data from various sources without proper citation and interspersing them with original content in a deceptive manner.

2. Plagiarism Detection:

  • All manuscripts submitted to GJMR are checked for plagiarism using reliable plagiarism detection software (such as Turnitin, iThenticate, or other similar tools).
  • The similarity index and content match are reviewed as part of the editorial and peer review process. If the plagiarism check reveals substantial overlap with existing published works, the manuscript may be rejected, and the author will be notified.

3. Policy on Handling Plagiarism:

  • Initial Detection: If plagiarism is suspected, the editorial team will contact the corresponding author and request an explanation. If the issue is a minor citation error, the author will be asked to revise the manuscript and provide proper citations.
  • Serious Cases of Plagiarism: If the manuscript is found to contain significant plagiarism or if the author fails to provide an acceptable explanation, the manuscript will be rejected immediately. Authors involved in plagiarism may be banned from submitting further manuscripts to the journal.
  • Retraction of Published Articles: In cases where plagiarism is discovered after the article has been published, the article will be retracted from the journal, and the retraction will be clearly communicated to the readership. The retraction notice will include details about the nature of the plagiarism.

4. Role of Authors:

  • Authors are expected to submit only original, unpublished work and to avoid any form of plagiarism in their manuscripts.
  • Proper attribution and citation of all sources used in the creation of the manuscript (including direct quotations, paraphrased ideas, and images) are essential.
  • Authors must also ensure that they have obtained permission to use any third-party materials, including images, tables, or data.

5. Role of Reviewers:

  • Reviewers play a crucial role in detecting potential plagiarism. They are encouraged to report any suspicions of plagiarism to the editorial team.
  • Reviewers must ensure that the work they are evaluating adheres to ethical publishing practices, including proper citations and acknowledgment of sources.

6. Preventative Measures:

  • Authors are encouraged to use plagiarism detection tools themselves before submitting their manuscripts to ensure originality and proper citation.
  • GJMR provides guidelines for authors on how to properly cite sources and avoid plagiarism, emphasizing the importance of academic honesty.

7. Ethical Responsibility:

  • GJMR adheres to the principles of the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines, ensuring that ethical standards are maintained in all publishing practices.
  • The journal promotes a culture of academic integrity and transparency, encouraging researchers to engage in honest and ethical academic work.

8. Consequences of Plagiarism:

  • Rejection of Manuscript: Manuscripts found to contain plagiarism will be rejected outright.
  • Blacklisting: Authors who are found to have committed plagiarism may be banned from submitting future articles to GJMR.
  • Retraction: Articles published in the journal that are found to have significant plagiarism will be retracted, and this retraction will be publicly acknowledged.
  • Institutional Notification: In cases of serious misconduct, the author’s institution may be notified of the plagiarism findings.

9. Appeals Process:

  • Authors who believe their manuscript has been unjustly flagged for plagiarism can submit an appeal to the editorial board. The appeal will be reviewed, and if necessary, a third-party expert may be consulted.
  • Appeals must be submitted in writing within 14 days of the notification of the plagiarism issue, with a detailed explanation of the author’s position.

By adhering to this Plagiarism Policy, Global Journal of Multidisciplinary Research seeks to ensure the integrity of the scholarly publication process, upholding the trust placed in academic research and contributing to the ethical dissemination of knowledge.
